Set up an email protest
Everyone uses emails! A lot of decision makers can be targeted by email. The email action tool allows your supporters to send emails direct to your targets via your action page.
An email protest is an action, so if you go to your toolbar at the top, click "New" and choose the left column to look for "Email Protest". The form has several sections, at the top you see the steps you have to take to complete setting up your Email Protest and on the right a big "Next" button, underneath you see several fields for your content. Let's go through every field:
Campaignion is multilingual. Here you can choose any of the enabled languages for your Email Protest. The chosen language should reflect the language of your content of course ;-) If your wanted language is not enabled, check out further documentation on installation or get more info about advanced settings.
If you've set up a whole campaign with several sites, here is the place to relate your new Email Protest to your campaign. It's easier for you to find and organize your sites if you group them as campaigns. If you just want one Email Protest to run you won't need this.
This is the title as displayed to the users and it will automaically be used for the URL (the link) of your Email Protest. Keep it short and simple.
Large image or video
This field on the right side gives you the possibility to upload or pick an existing video or image that goes along with your Email Protest. You can also choose to display a youtube or vimeo video by simply providing the link. This image or video will show on your Email Protest page, you can put more pictures in your further content, but this one is the face of your Email Protest.
Write a few short sentences to give your readers a quick impression of what this donation page is all about.
This is a text field, it's the "body" of your Email Protest. This is the place for big information. You can edit a summary of your body field if you click the small link just behind the title of the field "Edit summary". Useful for a smaller abstract of your text for your Email Protest. If you forget to edit this, Campaignion will help you out and just take the first few lines in your introduction field.
This one is important and fun! The counter will display your success. With every new submission of your form the counter will advance further to its goal. It already ships with default values and is usable out of the box, but if you want it customized, here you go: More about the counter
You can display a block that shows the names of the recent supporters that have sent an email via your Email Protest. Under Supporter name display, you can choose how to show you supporters’ names, if with their full name, or first name and the initial of the last name or just the first name. Default is first name with the initial of the last name. You can set a maximum number of displayed supporters and let them cycle. If you choose to show their countries, a little flag will appear next to their name.
Here you can set a manual URL and configure how your Email Protest integrates with the rest of your page. These are advanced settings, you probably won't be needing them. if you're interested anyhow, and puzzled by the options, then you might want to get more infos on it via drupal.org before editing.
Now we ran through all possibilities of the first step, lets go to the next one! Scroll back to the top and click on the red button "Next".
An email protest is aimed at a decision maker, that can be someone of the government, a CEO of an organisation or a company or whoever you want to change their policy.
Get the correct name and email address of your target (check twice if you copy it right!) and fill in the form.
You can add several targets, everyone of them will get the emails. Just click the "Add another item" button to add another target".
You can either let your supporters choose a target out of your list or simply provide the fixed list of
Now we need to set up the email for our protest! Click "Next" to proceed to:
You can either choose an existing form template with Apply Template or drag and drop your form together yourself. Of course you want a message field with subject line and body field. You can simply provide your email text by clicking in the subject line (or body for that matter), the edit-form will open and you will be able to fill in a default value for your field.
The rest of your form depends on your goal, get the information you need! What you always want is at least name and email of your supporters, so you can get back to them. Keep it simple, short forms are easier filled then long ones!
Get your prefered form together and hop on to the next step:
To get your supporters engaged and excited about your protest it's important to keep in touch. You will get their email-addresses through your form, now what to do with it?:
- Enable email confirmation (double opt in): Confirm the validity of the submitted email address before the Email Protest is counted as submitted. If you check this, your supporters will get an email after filling in your form (if they provided the right address) with a link to confirm it.
- Enable a thank you email: Automatically send a nice mail to every single one of your great supporters that helped you with your campaign.
- Enable a notification email: Notify someone (like yourself) about every submission
If you enable any of these emails they all provide the same options: More about emails
Now that we have set up our emails, we want a place where our supporters will land after they filled out the form and read all those emails, a place where we can tell them how great they are:
This next step lets you set up a Thank you page. You can either provide a URL (the link) to an existing one, or set up one directly. You have the same fields as if you would create one manually via Add > Thank you page.
You are already familiar with your "large Image or video" and "body" field. They behave the same way as with the Email Protest. New are the following fields:
Display Share block
Very important! You want your supporter to share your Email Protest after they signed it. If they signed it, chances are their friends and followers might as well.
If you check the Share block, you have several customization options: You can change the title of the share-box (to "Share me!" or any more fitting title) and you can specify the URL (the link) that should be shared. Per default its the url of the your petition.
There are also advanced share options, where you can enable/disable certain channels (Facebook, Twitter, Email) and change the tweeted text.
When you're done setting up a nice Thank you page for your supporters click "Next" and look over your work:
check if you set everything and you are ready to go! Either publish it and bring it to the people or save it as draft if you want to sleep over it.
All the best for your Email Protest!
